LP - Fielded - Ninety Thirty Thirty - $16.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
Our buds over at Captcha Records have churned out another heart melter with the latest from Fielded.  Captcha beams down the vitals from the mothership here:

"Fielded is Lindsay Powell and "Ninety-Thirty-Thirty" is her second record.
Born from dreams of science-fiction and a desire to decode a whirlwind of experience, Fielded's sophomore album Ninety Thirty Thirty is a freaky cosmic pop opus. Each song is an installment in a series from some cinematic drifter's wasteland. They are outer space transmissions, but also quite intuitive and direct with stories and melodies unfolding at the same time.

The current project of Lindsay Powell (of Ga'an and Skyblazer), Fielded's music is led by and built around Powell's vocal operatics. On her debut release Terrageist and recent split with Alex Barnett, Powell's vocal layering and manipulation provided the song's foundations, as well as much of the instrumentation and textures. On Ninety Thirty Thirty, Powell's arrangements went from a'cappella soliloquies to fully arranged mood-melters adding collaborators into the mix. It's Fielded’s first album that works more than just the voice, embarking on a more fulfilling journey of musicianship, songwriting, and divadom.
Throughout the record she explores her side of the song utilizing thick, warped vocals, synth arrangements, and drum programming - while simultaneously inviting others to come up with their own parts with very little guidance, allowing for that exciting element of chance. The result is futurist vocal-driven pop steeped in the heavily arranged art-rock structures of the 70s and 80s; each song pulls you in upon first listen but the instrumentation leaves much to unravel and repeatedly return.
The album was realized in a childhood-home studio in New Jersey, the isolation of suburbia inspiring determination and commitment to the fulfillment of the fantasy sound that existed in her private world. Regarding it's creation, Powell says "This record was a pause. A slow pulse of clarity. A moment of reflection after a period of time when i lived without hesitation; then came the growing pains. Ninety Thirty Thirty comes from a cinematic, science fiction dream I had while was on tour. I was the founder of a cult in post-apocalyptic America called "Ninety Thirty Thirty." Ninety represented the Uterus and Thirty Thirty the ovaries. What a code to unlock, I thought. And I think that’s what Fielded deals in often. The decoding of experience. We’ll never understand ourselves but there are so many questions that allow for amazing records or songs or relationships along the way."

A cinematic dissection of a post-apocalyptic dominion; Ninety Thirty Thirty aims to translate the specificities of human experience in order to defy genre and compartmentalization. Fielded’s desire is palpable. The desire to let go in order to make room for the unknown, the desire to not only summon but to become the outsider. Ninety Thirty Thirty is a step toward expansion and passion; we listen and internalize it’s sincerity, we gratefully invite to what was simply and pleasantly unexpected in the world of pop music." - Captcha

"Ninety Thirty Thirty" is nothing short of breathtaking; a divinely crystalline collection of electro pop.  Lindsay Powell's vocals are definitely the centerpiece here and her vocal rollercoasters are will stop you in your tracks with their soaring and rich sublimity.  The time and attention to detail in the songcraft really reveal themselves as the album steadily unfolds with a narrative quality.  A magical record of neon fog and queenly rule is what one will find on "Ninety Thirty Thirty" and we wholeheartedly give it a HUGE RECOMMENDATION.

7in - Goat - Dreambuilding - $5.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
Goat continues to lead the pack with yet another drool worthy installment of tribal-tinged rock lunacy.  Get the whole story from the learned folk at the mighty Sub Pop Records:

"Goat are a collective who hail from a small and very remote village in deepest darkest Sweden.
Legend has it that, for centuries, the inhabitants of the village were dedicated to the worship and practices of Voodoo. This strange and seemingly-unlikely activity was apparently introduced into the area after a travelling witch doctor and a handful of her disciples were led to the village by following an unknown Sami traveller from this area of Sweden.

The reason he led them there is unknown, but their Voodoo influence quickly took hold over the whole village, and so they made it their home. There they were able to practice their craft unnoticed and unbothered for several centuries.

This was until their non-Christian ways were discovered by the Church and they were burned out by the crusaders. But the survivors returned to the village, rebuilt it, and to this day the now-picturesque village is still influenced by the power of Voodoo; this power can be felt throughout the grooves of the Goat records.
Sub Pop is proud to spread the mystical power of Goat all over North America with the double-A-sided “Dreambuilding”/“Stonegoat” 7". This is Goat’s first North American release, and it comes hot on the heels of 2012’s critically-acclaimed, import-only psychedelic opus, World Music." - Sub Pop

This single is 2 more cuts ready to be spun to infinity!  Both these tracks rip like no bodies business and are of equal quality to anything on the "World Music" full length.  Grab this one pronto and crank that shit up!!! Ridiculously Recommended.

LP - Singapore Sling - Never Forever - Import - $22.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
FUZZ CLUB RECORDS FEATURE!
Hand Numbered Edition of 300 on 180 Gram Orange Wax
We've been fans of Reykjavik, Iceland's Singapore Sling for a long time here at Permanent Records so every time a new record shows up you know we're stoked.  Singapore Sling have been ushering out esoteric releases of psychedelic shoegaze coolness since the early aughts and this latest "Never Forever" is yet another installment of Jesus And Mary Chain-esque reverb worship and sunglasses-all-the-time music.  Singapore Sling's signature psychedelic aesthetics are masterfully summed up by top Youtube commenter artlessabyss' thoughts here:  "This is what I want to be listening to when I'm in a darkened room having passionate lesbian sex." Followed up by the to-the-point assessment of commenter sadplateofbacon's: "I'm high as fuck. this is awesome."  We couldn't agree more folks.  Mega Recommended.

LP - Piatcions - Heaven's Sins - Import - $14.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
FUZZ CLUB RECORDS FEATURE!
LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!!
KILLER 12-inch from this Italian band and their debut for FUZZ CLUB Records! For the uninitiated (as we were) Piatcions unleash a hurricane of noise and reverb over these three extended tracks, droning with sparse and trance-like vocals cascading in and out o'er the din - it's like a psychedelic tsunami! The band's repetitive riffing and stratosphere-reaching guitar heroics are cold and pummeling, reminding us of the best and more avant-leaning from the British shoegaze scene of the late-Eighties - think Loop and early Godflesh more than Spacemen 3 or Jesus and Mary Chain. It's a dark, hallucinatory ride that seems more like a musical ritual than the playing of a record. Really bewitching and has us hungry for more. Full-length album ASAP, please and thank you.. This one is a keeper, but act fast - it's limited to 300 copies (pressed up on snazzy silver vinyl too!) - RECOMMENDED!!!

LP - Electric Eye - Pick-Up Lift-Off Space Time - Import - $19.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
FUZZ CLUB RECORDS FEATURE!
The FUZZ CLUB Records onslaught continues! Electric Eye are clearly one of Norway's best-kept Space-Rock secrets and their debut "Pick-Up-Lift-Off Space Time" is a bewitching listen! Fuzz Club have prepared some thoughts that might bring things into focus - check it:

"One of the most exciting new band from Norway's musical capital, Bergen! Electric Eye is psychedelic space-rock made up by dirty blues, reverb and groovy drones. Walking in the shadows of modern psych-rockers The Black Angels, Wooden Shjips and The Warlocks, Electric Eye also invokes freak-out drones from Pink Floyd in Pompeii and Flaming Lips (The Embryonic LP)."

Electric Eye pepper their launch pad with the dreamy elements from Eighties/Nineties Brit-Shoegaze (MBV, Ride, Charlatans) with the head-bopping, rougher grooves of modern-day kraut movers like Cave, Lumerians  or Wooden Shjips while cooking it under a cheese-cloth of lysergic reverb and distortion! "Pick-Up-Lift-Off Space Time" has seven long tunes that aren't afraid to stretch out and let a riff ride, while not getting too wanky or proggy (or bluesy for that matter) with the solos. The more mainstream elements of early-2000s acts like Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre or Warlocks poke their heads up too, proving that these Norwegians recognize the need for a catchy melody and hook - Nicely done! We expect big things for these guys! RECOMMENDED!

FUZZ CLUB RECORDS FEATURE!
When Fuzz Club puts out an EP by a new band, it's definitely worth checking out, and this self titled debut from Black Lizard is no exception:

"Anton Newcombe from Brian Jonestown Massacre liked it so much they stepped in as producers on their upcoming LP" - Fuzz Club Records

Well it's not just Brian Jonestown Massacre that's stoked about Black Lizard, count us in too.  Their garage cavestomp approach to blistering psych rock reminds us of Black Mountain, Cosmonauts, the Warlocks and Comets On Fire all swirled into one heady mix of feedback and guitar fireworks.   You won't be filing this one away in yer stacks, cuz this is one HIGHLY ADDICTING AND RECOMMENDED hit of psych rock.  We can't wait for more from Black Lizard, and you'll feel the same soon too!

10in - Lucid Dream - Erbistock Mill - Import - $19.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
FUZZ CLUB RECORDS FEATURE!
LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!
UK-based up-n-comers The Lucid Dream's longer-playing, debut 4-song EP, originally released in 2009, but reissued on this crimson 10-inch in 2012 on Fuzz Club Records! Check these deets from the label themselves:

"The Lucid Dream were formed in Carlisle, Cumbria, in 2008. Most recently, the band were selected as full UK tour support to A Place To Bury Strangers in May 2012, and followed this up in June 2012, supporting Death In Vegas. This was on the back of supports to Spectrum, Crocodiles, Captain Beefheart's 'The Magic Band', and The Aliens, to name a few. The Lucid Dream will embark on their first European tour in November 2012, to coincide with the 10" vinyl repress of the debut release ('Erbistock Mill' EP), via Fuzz Club Records. The tour will also promote the double vinyl compilation 'The Reverb Conspiracy', also released via Fuzz Club Records. The band are currently putting the finishing touches to the debut album, set for Spring 2013 release."

This EP was apparently recorded in an abandoned 15th-century mill in Erbistock, North Wales, with the band and engineer absorbing the vibes and utilizing the natural reverb of the stone structure itself to pepper the mood and feels of the recordings.  The four tunes range from howling, JAMC dead-cool groovers ("I Got The Devil") to Loop/Spacemen 3-soaked, shoegaze'd, rockers ("Jesus Say My Prayers"). These guys are dead-on in line with the new crop of UK-psych heads like Hookworms, Alien Ballroom and Mugstar, so if those feathers tickle yer fancy, you'd best snatch this one up before it becomes a memory (or a lucid dream... eh? eh?). 300 copies won't last long. RECOMMENDED.

LP - Dead Rabbits - The Ticket That Exploded - Import - $29.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
FUZZ CLUB RECORDS FEATURE!
This UK act nicked the title of their record from the William Burroughs novel, a sly move that quickly caught our eye and piqued our interest.  Dead Rabbits are plying the mid tempo psychedelic shoegaze sounds in the traditon of groups like Loop, Swervedriver, Black Angels and Spiritualized with a classic 60's tambourine stomp added to the soaring guitars and distorted bass.  Lush vocals and a steady backbeat combined with droning keyboards added to the mix make for a seriously slick album of buzzing shoegaze strutters.  This album comes housed in a full color gatefold sleeve and clocks in at just under 45 minutes.  "The Ticket That Exploded" takes its time and stretches out letting each track apex and burn out to its natural conclusion.  Severely Recommended.

LP - Dead Skeletons - Buddha Christ - Import - $29.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
FUZZ CLUB RECORDS FEATURE!
Hand Numbered Edition of 300
Gah!  We scored this mega limited one-sided 12 inch from Iceland's Dead Skeletons and it is a thing of beauty.  It comes housed in a high-gloss gatefold sleeve, has a cryptic silk-screened B side and features 2 stunning tracks of daaaaaaark echo-drenched psychedelic deathrock.  Both tracks have an almost Aussie swamp rock vibe to them but with some seriously sinister intentions hidden in the chaos of effects.  Stomping percussion, black as midnight drones and Morricone echoing guitars slither out creeptastic garage-rock-in-a-lightning-storm insanity as a fearsome vocal commands the listener along these over all too quick tracks.  Holy hell, this 12 inch will leave you begging for more!  Wildly Recommended.

LP - Shannon And The Clams - Dreams In The Rat House - $13.99 - LISTEN listen - TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK IN CHICAGO, EMAIL IF INTERESTED listen
Shannon And The Clams are back with their third album, "Dreams In The Rat Hosue" (their first for Hardly Art) and they're cutting straight to the heart of that down and dirty rock n roll spirit we can just never get enough of.  Here with a little introduction is none other than Nobunny:

"Calling all Hobos, Twisters, Freaks, and Geeks: pogo the crust out yr eyes, and marvel in this blindingly bright, full color 3-D world of ours. The sunsets are getting more beautiful 'ery damn day thanks to pollution. You can order some psilocybin on the internet and watch nukes explode online all from the comfort of your own bed! Get outdoors cuz life is beautiful and everything is terrible. It's so yo gabba great that God itself is here. Why not R-O-C-K in the USA? From yr Bedrock in Cali-forn-i-a! Do the Flintstone flop and go WAY OUT! Close yr eyes and pretend yr a cave person (like you really have to pretend) and yr riding Space Mountain at Disneyland for the 1st time. Yeah friend! 2001 is here again! Welcome back to the future!  I'm a (music) nut. What kind of music am I into? Everything on the menu with extras on it. I can only choose one? I'll take ROCK 'N' ROLL, then. Rock 'n' Roll, in all it's twisted gnarly rooted glory, is what SHANNON AND THE CLAMS (da) do (ron ron) heads and tails above and more importantly, BEYOND the other troglodytes and biscuit-heads out there. Can a group be a "girl group" if there is only one girl in the group? Can a modern working band be considered "oldies"? No silly, but the rules are none, and anything goes, and this is PUNK, punk. Or is it rock ‘n’ roll, or whatever? It is SHANNON AND THE CLAMS and they do what they want. Do yrself a favor and tune in yr tinfoil hat. From pop ballads to doo woppers, bomp stompers and punk rippers, country clippers and some psych-o trippers, it's all R’n’R and it's all right there in the Clams’ hooded velvet trick bag. Ya feel lucky, punk?  SHANNON AND THE CLAMS are rumored to be from NOW in Oakland California and comprised of Shannon Shaw (vocals, bass), Cody Blanchard (vocals, guitar), and Ian Amberson (drums, vocals). What started as an open mic project for a shy, young Shannon to try out some tunes ended with the Clams meeting and forming a band. Many have said to have been possessed by thee (eerily similar at times) haunted howls and beautiful growls of their two lead vocalists, hypnotized by their heavy heartbeats, and mesmerized by their magical music. This is a ride that contains both thrills and chills so hold on tight.  Your ears may become infested with a real Buddy Holly jolly kinda joy (oh boy) while you stutter along to a hiccupy song. Take a scratch and a sniff at these stickers and get bit by their bad-brained snarls. It's always Christmas (if you want it). It's your party time, and it's excellent. Cry-yi-yi if you want to, but be sure to surf a splish-splash with a laugh later.  The reality is, these Three Little Rascals broke free of our gang and their time, stopped thru the decades, soaked up the sounds ‘n’ spuds…. and like the lady and gentlemen they are, gifted us with the honor to hear their soundtrack of their brains – and their wonderful rock ‘n’ rule of the now and forever. SHANNON AND THE CLAMS present to all of us the greatest present: their first LP for Hardly Art, Dreams in the Rat House.  -NOBUNNY, 2013" - Hardly Art

"Dreams In The Rat House" is a swirling mash up of all things ROCK N ROLL, from early rock greats to doo wop, on through garage burners to psych rave ups, all peppered with tons of girl group melody, soul and analog warmth.   Shannon And The Clams have been slaying us with their garage rock for years now, and their latest LP just might be their best.  Are we listening to lost AM pop songs from some alternate reality or is this future of rock n roll?  We're not sure, but we do know we'll be flipping this one over and over again.  SUPER RECOMMENDED!

LP - Violent Change - Violent Change - $13.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
LIMITED TO 330 COPIES
Catholic Guilt just unleashed the self titled debut from San Francisco's Violent Change and man oh man are you gonna want to check out their DIY guitar pop jams now:

"We're very excited and honored to announce Catholic Guilt's second release (and first full-length): the appallingly brilliant debut LP from VIOLENT CHANGE.  From out of the depressing, dot-com-subsidized muck of San Francisco's rising rents and increasingly dull culture comes a record both surprising and stunning, strangely out of time yet more raw, real, and now than anything else we've heard lately. Violent Change is a melodic, art-damaged, deeply affecting, thoroughly great album from a band as influenced by UK '77 punk and Killed By Death comps as it is by GUIDED BY VOICES and early BEE GEES.  The band, led by songwriter Matt Bleyle (formerly of SOPORS), assembled this 16-song LP from cassette recordings made at home between fall of 2011 and summer of 2012. Bleyle recorded most of the songs entirely by himself, but the record also features a few full-band recordings, including two songs written and sung by bandmate Tony Molina (OVENS). The LP follows on the tails of the band's first release, a terrific four-song 7-inch released late last year through Melters.  Ranging from agitated punk and noisy sound collages to cryptic ballads and pure pop, VIOLENT CHANGE has a peculiar, magnetic internal logic that becomes alternately more apparent and more mysterious with each listen. It's seriously one of the best records we've ever heard—a future classic of the pop underground. Easily our favorite San Francisco album since the HOSPITALS' Hairdryer Peace. We know you'll love it (and play it over and over, like we have) if you give it a chance.  It's limited to 330 copies on black vinyl, and every purchase comes with a free digital download of the album. " - Catholic Guilt

Once the needle hits "Violent Change" you'll be immediately sucked into the warm catchy vibes, the kind we haven't heard since last Big Star and/or Soft Boys albums.   Violent Change seamless combines hazy reverbed melodies, jangly power pop moves, heart rending song writing and plenty of nineties guitar tricks into one art bent, off-kilter rock n roll platter that you'll keeping grabbing for.  At moments channeling GBV, and at others Sebadoh, Violent Change are carving out their own unique take on power chord indie rock.  Put them in the same camp as Roomrunner, Metz, Purling Hiss and Milk Music--bands out to prove that guitar rock is far from dead (not that we had any doubt!)  Quite a killer debut, and VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

2xLP - Velvet Underground - Sweet Sister Ray - $21.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
LIMITED TO 300 COPIES WITH WHITE SLEEVE STICKER AND HAND-MADE SPRAY-PAINTED JACKETS
The Velvet Underground were arguably one of the most important bands of the Sixties - a group whose measure of influence is still being felt today. As more and more live recordings surface (as they have lately), we get a clearer sense of the BAND that was VU beyond those three (or four - "Loaded" anyone?) classic and unfuckwithable albums. They were sonic adventurers who really, TRULY pushed the boundaries of what a pop band could and should do - infusing pop music with a sense of purpose and intellectual forethought. Intelligent music made by intelligent people. "Sweet Sister Ray" is a long-whispered about double LP compiling three live versions of VU's raga-rock barnstormer, which - when played live was known to have been extended and improvised to epic lengths. One version from La Cave in Cleveland '68 is so long, it's stretched over two sides of LP one, with some sick guitar gnarling from Reed and Yule. If you are a VU fan, this is an INDISPENSIBLE album that embodies WHY VU were so important to begin with, and for the casual listener is a thrilling look at an oft-underappreciated (and under-documented) side of the band. Here are some particulars of the release here (there are only 3 version despite what it says):

"Consists of four separate versions the VU classic "Sister Ray."
Sides 1 and 2: La Cave, Cleveland, April 30, 1968
Side 3: Boston Tea Party, December 12, 1968
Side 4: Boston Tea Party, March 15, 1969

First LP in black vinyl, second LP in black-marbled red vinyl.  Limited edition to 300 copies. Comes in a blank, white sleeve with sticker, every copy has a handmade spray-painted finish in black color"

Packaged in bare-bones, hand-spray-painted covers with a pasted-on, deconstructed-via-photocopier image of Reed in the corner, is this one recommended? HELL YES.

LP - Various Artists - It's Boss! Man! - Import - $21.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
LIMITED TO 500 COPIES
Debut release from newly minted Netherlands label Now Sound Records compiling "18 Slabs of Cool 60's USA Garage Thumpers With A Soulin' Attitude" -  "It's Boss! Man!" Now Sound has the nitty gritty, so let's get down to it (as they say):

"18 Slabs 0f Cool 60’s USA Garage Thumpers with a Soulin’ Attitude! - Including: J.T. And The Three Wisemen / East Coast Journeymen / The Pigeons / Royal and The Shades / The Sweet Soul Six / The New Sensations / Dean Carter Sound / Jefferson Lee / Anthony and The Aqua Lads / S.O.S. Unlimited / The Overtones / Sound 70 / Soul Inc. / Ground Floor People / The Endless Knights / Kenny Wayne and The Kamotions / Dick “Wild Childe” Kemp / Tony and The Vizitors"

Now we realize you're probably thinking "Aw geez, there's a ton of these garage comp's out there" but what separates "It's Boss! Man!" from yer garden-variety BFTG-style compilation is that this mofo focuses on more of the danceable/floor-fillers of the era than manic, fuzz-drenched stompers. Essentially bands informed by bands like Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels, Thee Midnighters and Question Mark and The Mysterians than, say The Yardbirds or The Stones. Don't get us wrong - there's some grit in these tunes (see Kenny Wayne and the Kamotions' cut "Child Bride"), the focus is just shifted a lil' bit to the rhythm section and what THEY can do. Really solid tracklist too - not a stinker in the bunch! We have a feeling we'll be spinning this one a lot - at least, while it sticks around, since this one's limited to 500 copies worldwide! Killer artwork too - grab yer dancin' shoes and hang on tight! RECOMMENDED!

LP - Horde - Press Button Firmly - Limited Version WIth Bonus 7in - $23.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
SCARCE North Caroline garage rock - unheard until this Break-A-Way Records discovery, remastered and restored from the best possible sources! Strap yourself in and pay attention to what Break-A-Way has to say about The Horde:

"Undoubtedly the most exciting mid sixties garage album to be recently discovered in the genre is that by The Horde from North Carolina. The existence of this self-produced album came to collectors' ears and eyes only about a year ago. It was recorded more or less accidently in early 1967, released in a micro quantity of only 25 copies and among the local U.S. garage albums of the decade it is one of the few eclectic examples with all the ingredients that makes it outstanding compared with the usual prep-school albums of the time. It contains a blend of exciting originals and well chosen, inspired covers, played in a raw, crude and frantic style. If ever it were true that the over-used assertion that a band's cover versions measured up to the originals, then it is true of The Horde. Why? These five 19-20 year old students from all over the United States did not only blaze a trail for '60s rock in then conservative North Carolina, they also had a general attitude that finds its origins in the young people's mindset of the mid-sixties that put them outside of the local mainstream and gained them a sort of regional underground popularity. Break-A-Way has now reissued this original sought after LP with four bonus tracks taken from an unreleased 1967 EP along with a detailed twelve-page booklet which gives the complete history of the band and loads of rare pictures. "Press Buttons Firmly" to find out why the Horde LP is not only rare, but also deserves to be called, "one of the sharpest local garage punk albums of the sixties""

An amazing find - The Horde definitely have all that's great about a Sixties garage band; grit, tunes, and a killer recording (that probably sounds better than they actually were), BUT what we're stoked to see is a band IN the late-Sixties covering Love! Yep - "Press Buttons Firmly" actually has TWO compositions by Arthur Lee; a terrifically pseudo-inept version of "7 and 7 Is" and a really killer swingin' version of "My Flash On You" (a personal fave).  The originals are the real star - "Steve's Song", "Press Buttons Firmly" and "Frog Street" snarl and shimmy with attitude and swagger, infused with the best elements of current faves like Them and The Stones (or The Seeds). This LP reissue includes studio sessions for the album and also a repro of an unreleased 7-inch EP. AMAZING reissue! RECOMMENDED!

LP - Redondos - Full Circle With The Redondos - $19.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!
We absolutely RAVED about Break-A-Way Records' reissue of The United Travel Service's recorded output and those fine folks have compiled an LP of that band's previous incarnation as The Redondos for all of us craving more! Break-A-Way's done us the favor of drawing up a 'lil history lesson, so pull up a chair and have an ear-full:

“Full Circle With The Redondos” is a limited vinyl-only release for collectors and connoisseurs of vintage garage music and offers a valuable insight into the past-history of one of the most exciting Pacific North West Psyschedelic Bands - The United Travel Service. Founded in Portland, Oregon, three members of the United Travel Service took their first musical steps in the Redondos. Like their successors, the band left a large number of unreleased recordings dating from 1965/66. Influenced by early sixties Surf and inspired by the British Invasion, the Redondos created an unique sound providing an amazing mix of storming Surf tunes, Rock ‘n’ Roll standards and moody originals, written by guitarist Ben Hoff. The innocent charm of their Beau Brummels type edgy folkbeat already reflects the magic and authenticity of the later United Travel Service material and sets The Redondos apart from the typical mid-sixties regional North West Sound of the time. The Redondos never released any records, but after a serious run through their musical legacy, we have sorted out and re-mastered their best tracks to a great blend of enjoyable covers and stand-out originals. For the group these recordings still reflect a special moment in time after nearly fifty years. Take your chance and share this unforgettable moment on this true labour of love release and be in the “Full Circle with the Redondos”

Recorded in '65 and '66, these tunes show the promise of the magic that would become The UTS - minor-key, original garage-janglers that wouldn't sound out of place next to your Index, Bachs or that recently reissued Psychopaths single on Mighty Mouth! songwriter/guitarist Ben Hoff's originals still operate in the 65/66 teenbeat mode, but are aching to break that mold, with Hoff's lyrics and guitar-work starting to stretch beyond what was considered the norm back then. A killer artifact that we're sure will be satisfying for years to come! Limited to 300 copies though, so DO NOT hesitate! RECOMMENDED!

"Compilation of unbelievable rockabilly, country and early rock instrumentals.  All obscure and hard to find and not a loser in the bunch.    A mind blower for fans of the Cramps, Lee Hazelwood, real deal rock n' roll and out there country. Songs about graveyards, misery, trains, ghosts and so on. We highly recommend this one."

Collections like "Six Feet Under" are more than necessary cuz otherwise we'd have no way to hear these nearly lost, super collectable, unheard gems from artists like Johnny Fortune, Mystery Trio, Ramblin' Rebels and oh so many more.   Fans of Sun Records, Wanda Jackson, Hasil Adkins, Link Wray, the aforementioned Lee Hazlewood and those Songs The Cramps Taught Us comps, as well as any fans of true down and dirty Americana, will absolutely fall in love with this collection.  We sure have.  "Six Feet Under" is just the touch of backwoods twang and moonshine jolt that'll make any day seem brighter.  And we'd definitely like to see more songs about ghosts, misery, trains, graveyards and heartbreak in our collections.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

LP - Spanish Moss - Kelp - Pink Wax - $11.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
PRESSED ON PINK WAX LIMITED TO 250 COPIES!

We're always searching and digging deep to find mind blowing new bands and labels to fill up the racks here at the shop, and sometimes we strike psych rock gold.  Our newest discovery, Spanish Moss, is for sure gonna melt your face off.  Patrick Haight, sound engineer guru at Burger Records, signed them to his new label Spot On Sounds, and man are we glad he did.  Spanish Moss grabs you by the ears and drags you through a bluesy space-drenched fuzzed-out psychedelic journey on their debut long player, "Kelp"...and once you've gone done the rabbit hole, you'll get stuck flipping this one over and over again.  We didn't know much about Spanish Moss before this stack of lps showed up at the door one day, so let's get the back story from the blog Sunrise Ocean Bender:

"Spot-On Sound is a new label out of Sacramento spearheaded by Patrick Haight, mastering engineer for Burger Records. Spot-On has a few releases lined up down the pike, but they hit the ground running, hard, with Santa Cruz based Spanish Moss and their aptly titled KELP. Santa Cruz and seaweed don’t mean sea shanties for these cats. Opener Fuzz Puzzle about says it all; KELP is a psych crop grown in fertile fuzz…and all the pieces fit. Fit tight even though Spanish Moss deliver frayed, jagged blasts of psych rock that sound like they could splinter any minute. All the ragged burrs are left in fine form making KELP sound like the equivalent to a wave of hot pebbles being poured down your beach shorts. Feels good, sounds even better. Part straight up psych with doses of space rock and bluesy liquefying licks, KELP goes for the throat and cortex and relentlessy hangs on. They call is ‘psychedelic bluesgaze’ and no one is going to argue with the shorthand as they put repetition to good use hammering home the riffs for full stun effect. Layering on molten leads and wailing, and often soulful, vocals on top of a frantically active bottom-end, Spanish Moss bring all the ingredients together for a heady stew that doesn’t overwhelm the tunes underneath. And the hooks are there; barbed, serrated and slathered with heavy psych cream. KELP is an outstanding debut, for both Spanish Moss and Spot-On Sound." from Sunrise Ocean Bender" - Spot On Sound

We love our psych rock loud, raw, stretched out, warped and crazy as it can be and Spanish Moss heavily delivers on all those fronts.  Searing delinquent acid fried rock n roll, "Kelp" leans on those ever deep sources of psych inspiration from Hawkwind to Monoshock and definitely owes some debt to the Phoenix and Guerrson back catalogs (quality influences for sure).  Spanish Moss can be filed away next to the current crop of psychedelic adventurers like MMOSS, Cave, White Hills, Psychic Ills and Acid Mothers Temple -- if "Kelp" ever leaves your turnable that is.  This one comes on translucent pink vinyl and is bound to go quick, so don't miss out.  You need some "Kelp" in your life.  RECOMMENDED TIMES INFINITY.

LP - Pharaoh Overlord - 3 - Import - $19.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

The Ektro-Full Contact labels have resurrected a Pharaoh Overlord classic and given it proper life on the preferred vinyl format; get the whole story direct from the labels:

"Pharaoh Overlord's third full-length album was originally released with two additional tracks by the UK-based record label Riot Season in 2005. The stunning album blasts off with Grand Funk Railroad type of unrestrained groove, merging Dire Straits-like guitar picking, petrified hard rock, otherworldly manic exorcism and dizzyingly minimalistic kraut-psychedelia of Ash Ra Tempel. This motorik oddity is now reissued for the first time in vinyl by Full Contact, Ektro Records' sublabel specialising in vinyl releases." - Ektro-Full Contact

Pharaoh Overlord, a Circle side-project, is always creating hypnotic motorik sky walkers and to finally get "3" on wax is a dream come true.  This album is full of mid-tempo head nodders with squiggly guitar passages that will twist your brain into kraut-y bliss as the sounds infinitely spiral in on themselves.  If you dig the minimalist repetition and layered psychedelic sounds of Circle, Oneida, Carlton Melton and Magic Lantern then grab this platter immediately, you won't be disappointed with the trance inducing sonics these fine fellows from Finland are layin' down.  Mega Recommended.

LP - Peter Jefferies - The Last Great Challenge In A Dull World - $17.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
CD - Peter Jefferies - The Last Great Challenge In A Dull World - $9.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

The mighty De Stijl Records has pressed up this boss reissue of a Kiwi classic so we'll let the knowledgeable folks at De Stijl fill you in on the back story:

"Peter Jefferies’s extraordinary debut solo album, The Last Great Challenge in a Dull World, first saw life as a cassette via the Xpressway label of Port Chalmers, New Zealand, in 1990. As a result of some international underground acclaim in fanzines and mailorder catalogs – for both the album and a striking 7-inch, “The Fate of the Human Carbine,” released around the same time – it soon appeared on LP and CD as well, through the Ajax label of Chicago. Within a handful of years it slipped out of print and out of sight. Roughly 20 years later that situation is being amended by De Stijl with a vinyl reissue that includes the songs from the attendant single and no amount of remastering whatsoever.
Though no one’s gotten around to writing a book on it yet, The Last Great Challenge in a Dull World nonetheless stands as one of the singular singer-songwriter albums of all time, existing on a sparsely populated plane with Pink Moon, I Often Dream of Trains, Blues Run the Game, Our Mother the Mountain and not many others. In a sandy voice that soothes and slashes, Jefferies offers a compassionate, piercingly lucid view of the endeavor of life, all our pain and small glories rendered in tones both harrowing and tender. On piano, drums and percussion, he pounds out melodies that roar, sweep and lilt, accompanied on many songs by the serrated guitars of a variety of players. Featuring a small team of South Island heavy-hitters – all three members of the Dead C as well as David Mitchell (3Ds), Alastair Galbraith, Kathy Bull (Look Blue Go Purple, Cyclops), Nigel Taylor and Robbie Muir (who’s cobilled on the single) – Last Great Challenge provides a pivot point in Jefferies’s formidable recording career, which included two bands he shared with his brother Graeme in the ’80s, Nocturnal Projections and This Kind of Punishment, and four further solo albums, as well as stints in bands here (Mecca Normal, Two Foot Flame) and there (Plagal Grind, Cyclops, and collaborations with Shayne Carter, Jono Lonie and Chris Smith).
This immediate and affecting album has been a comfort and a guide for me since it came out. Sit a spell and see if it doesn’t speak to you as well.
~ Mike Wolf, NYC, 2013"

Mike Wolf, representing De Stijl, more than sums up the glorious contents of this amazing record.  If you've been digging all the recent reissue mania of the stuff coming out of New Zealand and Australia, then grab this immediately.  It is not to be missed!  Extremely Recommended.
