This Week's New Featured Releases and Reissues

LP - Thee Oh Sees - Mutilator Defeated At Last

$15.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

CD - Thee Oh Sees - Mutilator Defeated At Last

$9.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Here we have a new batch from Thee Oh Sees for your absorption—nine muscular tunes primed to pummel. Last year’s Drop was more schizophrenic, ranging from heavy to whimsical and back; Mutilator Defeated at Last has more in common with the monolithic hugeness of Floating Coffin. With only two brief reprieves from its onslaught, this record is made to be played loudly and demands bodily sacrifice.  Despite the plutonium heavy feel, Thee Oh Sees continue to be omnivorous. Synths and acoustic guitars wind throughout the album like veins of gold through granite. Any and all that stands in its way will be devoured and assimilated. This is the sound of a band doing what they do best." - Castle Face

LP - JPT Scare Band - Acid Acetate Excursion/Rape Of The Titan's Sirens - Reissue 2xLP

$25.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Banded together during the tumultuous years of the early 70s, JPT Scare Band fused a sound equally heavy in hard rocking blues as it was tripped out in psychedelia, creating a sound so imposing that it perfectly reflected the emotions of the era. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Terry Swope, drummer Jeff Littrell, and bassist Paul Grigsby, JPT Scare Band began recording songs in their Kansas City basement and soon compiled a vault full of reel-to-reel tapes that would make up much of the band’s catalogue.

Though the band formed in 1973, JPT Scare Band’s first album, Acid Acetate Excursion, wasn’t released until 1994, over twenty years after the band’s formation. Along with Acid Acetate Excursion, the band, in conjunction with Monster Records, released two more albums, 1998’s Rape Of Titan’s Sirens and 2000’s Sleeping Sickness. Both releases highlighted the bands heavy psych/proto-metal blues sound through the otherworldly and unheralded guitar work of Terry Swope, and each has become an underground cult classic.

The new millennium has seen JPT Scare Band delve deeper into their archive of recorded material, accumulated through massive jam sessions throughout the 70s, as well as the 90s, and a flood of product was soon released. Through the band’s self-realised label Kung Bomar, seven albums hit the streets including 2002’s brilliant Past Is Prologue, 2007’s stunning release of all new material with Jamm Vapour and most recently, 2009’s Rumdum Daddy.

In the waning months of 2009, JPT Scare Band merged their energies with rock label Ripple Music to release Acid Blues Is The White Man’s Burden, a collection of unreleased tracks, extended jams, and outstanding cover tunes that helped bridge the gaps in the JPT chronology and turn on a whole new generation on to their classic version of acid rock.

Despite being scattered across the US, JPT Scare Band has never stopped working and creating relevant music. JPT have the uncanny ability, an almost shared consciousness, to pick up right where they left off after being apart for fifteen years and hammer out a set of hard edged guitar driven rock that would have made Cream sound soft. JPT Scare Band will appeal to fans of Jimi Hendrix, Cream, and Black Sabbath.

This April, Ripple Music will release a very special LP set consisting of their first two, seminal releases –Acid Acetate Excursion and Rape Of The Titan’s Sirens – re-presented in full, with new gatefold album art that incorporates the images of the original two albums. Originally recorded in the 1970s, these albums have been out of print since the original Monster Records release in the early 90s and represent the full early history of the band that Classic Rock Magazine once hailed as one of the, “Lost pioneers of Proto-Metal.”

Acid Acetate Excursion and Rape Of The Titan’s Sirens will be released together via Ripple Music on 28th April 2015." - Ripple Music

LP - Bob Chance - It's Broken / Rock Country - Original 1980 / 1981 Stock

$74.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

Here's yer chance to grab TWO super rare private press LPs from the wonderfully off kilter Bob Chance, both his 1980 album "It's Broken" and his follow up lp "Rock Country"!!!!  Both the psych-funk-meets-space-synth weirdness of "It's Broken" (once called "hairy forearm disco" by DJ Shadow, whose apparently a fan!) and the fractured pop of "Country Rock" where Mr Chance channels the weirder corners of country tinged rock a la Lee Hazlewood, Randy Newman and Gary Wilson are MUST OWNS for those who like to RIDE CLOSE TO THE EDGES OF POP SANITY!  You might run into one of these lps in the wild, but not both.  So pick up yer Bob Chance double shot now!  RECOMMENDED!

And here's some more kind words about "It's Broken" LP, if you need convincing -

"Walking a strange line between the asylum and the dancefloor, welcome Bob Chance. Yes, this is an album like no other. But then again Bob Chance isn’t like anyone else. Put together in 1980, It’s Broken represents Bob’s creative juices flowing and then possibly overflowing all over the place. I first came across the album as one of the strange slabs of vinyl I write about for my column in Mojo. I described it as the musical equivalent of Curry House DIY, an unusual and unexpected flow of ideas that maybe shouldn’t work together but actually do in a most unorthodox and functional way. And if I have to describe the album musically to people I explain it has a touch of Giorgio Moroder, a bit of the Beach Boys and a sprinkle of Glen Campbell as a serial killer. Whilst writing about the album a couple of years ago I had it on repeat for at least a day, and found myself singing the songs, enjoying the harmonies, reveling in the musical ideas present. How can you not love a nine minute post-disco oddity called “It’s Broken”? Why would you not want to thrill at a five minute instrumental journey into Bob’s jungle? And how about a short trip inside a stalker’s van? Exactly, it’s all irresistible." - Trunkrecords.com

LP - CCR Headcleaner - Cokesmoker EP

$13.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"The San Fran weirdo quartet CCR Headcleaner have been making their mark in the sonic mire of the Bay Area since 2008 via various projects — they run Pollen Season (a label/collective), and have played in Long Legged Woman, Waste Rig, and The Hospitals, among others. They’ve also had releases on Gnar Tapes, Famous Class, Caesar Cuts, and Pizza Burglar Records, and recently toured with Fuzz and Destruction Unit. Their latest release, Cokesmoker (co-released by Pollen Season and Stale Heat), sees the group continuing to hone their carefree, bone-shaking brand of psychedelia…melting riff after riff into a continuous stream of blinding, unhinged noise rock that seems less rainbow-hippie and more black-and-white sludge." - Decoder

"The Bay Area heroes are back with their demented hippie psyche noise jams. Their “Cokesmoker” radio edit is a pop-digestible version of their song of the same name that spans two sides of a new 12 inch put out by Stale Heat and Pollen Season, complete with whining vocals sung over great pop riffs, drenched in layers of controlled chaos." - Noisey" - Stale Heat / Pollen Season

LP - Demian Castellanos - The Kyvu Tape Vol 1 - 1990-1998 - Import

$17.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"You probably know Demian Castellanos as the man behind the London psyche rock outfit The Oscillation. Cardinal Fuzz and their European best partner in crime Hands In The Dark are teaming-up to release "The Kyvu Tapes Vol.1 (1990-1998)".
Demian grew up in a house called Kyvu (which means "view of the dog" in local dialect) in a village called The Lizard where the view from his house overlooked Kynance Cove in Cornwall. All of which act as reference points as Demian Castellanos takes you on a sonic exploration on the Kyvu Tapes Vol.1.
The fruit of his 90's decade-long, obsession for the infinite possibilities offered by the electric guitar - playing it with forks, knives, bits of paper, volume control, and making the most of the effects pedals he had - was countless hours of experimentation and sonic explorations on a 4-track Tascam Porta 3. Largely influenced by new sound of the British psyche/shoegaze scene of that time, his music could be described as analog and guitar based ambient music or room drones, a vast auditory map of sonic places to lose himself in and immerse himself in a surreal/non-real present time of that period.
15 years down the line, Demian decided to dig out his endless night and day recordings of that period, reflecting now a bizarre conversation between his older and younger self." - Cardinal Fuzz / Hands In The Dark

LP - Devil Worshipper - Devil Worshipper

$15.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Imagine a version of Julio Cortázar’s The Night Face Up where there is no motorcycle crash and no series of dreams about trying to outrun Aztec warriors determined to capture you for human sacrifice. There is still darkness in this story—the darkness of living in post-Reagan America, existential dread, the futility of living one’s dreams and still waking up every day.Devil Worshipper is the dream that swirls and reflects landscapes in chrome as snakes dance in your spine. Blistering solos that wouldn’t be out of place on a Helios Creed or The Mike Gunn LP draw the night sky as a steady, hypnotic rhythm paints the lines dividing the highway out of here." - Holy Mountain

LP - High-Functioning Flesh - Definite Structures

$19.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Instinctive EBM laced punk from Los Angeles own HIGH-FUNCTIONING FLESH cuts through the discord with their sophomore album, Definite Structures. Formed in southern California in 2012 following the conclusion of their previous musical endeavors, GREGORY VAND and SUSAN SUBTRACT came together fusing their backgrounds and aesthetics of industrial, punk, and noise to model songs that were collected on their debut album, A Unity of Miseries, A Misery of Unities, on Atlanta based electro label DKA Records. Referencing the rack mount synthesis and accented drum machine strikes of '80s bands like Portion Control and Nitzer Ebb, HFF main-lined their punk resumes into the reaction causing a signature chemtrail of martial techno-inspired electronic mayhem shredded through a vocally dystopian finality. The past 3 years have launched HFF from a handful of lo-fi flashback demos to aggressively realized synth/punk dance floor anthems, carving out a sound that would let you think that HFF has warped time to an era completely their own." - Dais

LP - Lumpy And The Dumpers - Collection - Import

$21.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

JAPANESE PRESSING LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!! / WITH 12 PAGE BOOKLET AND INCLUDES ALL THE CHAOTIC LUMPY SINGLES RELEASED SO FAR
"From time to time, LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS prove themselves to be the terminus of the Slime Punk Express. Blown out and covered in slime, Lumpy gnashes his way through these 12 tracks about ghouls, gnats, piss, sex pits and bad breath. In the realm of screaming, searing "throbbing idiot punk" (as LUMPY calls it), this is gold. It's fast, it's vicious, and it does not give a fuck. Total raw, warped punk just like I love it! LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS sound exactly like what you'd imagine Ren & Stimpy's latin-jazz freakout band!

This band is about the filth inside, which is not to be confused with the darkness, it's not mental anguish and black godlusts that are spewing forth here, just the natural logistics of flesh, the slippery smelly stuff, honesty of form in the chitterlings and the old shambles. Semi-solid beings playing songs of uncomfortable physicality." - Episode Sounds

LP - Old Testament - Old Testament - Import

$17.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Cardinal Fuzz are Evil Hoodoo are proud to present the debut self titled album from Old Testament.
Old Testament a band formed in Los Angeles in the year 5,772 and fronted by singer and songwriter Jason Simon of Dead Meadow. When Jason started accumulating songs that he felt fell outside the realm of the riff and heavy fuzz of Dead Meadow he decided to form a new band that tell of a long lost America as envisioned by Harry E. Smith in his anthology of haunting blue, backwords ballads and god- fearing gospel. Warbling guitars, electric organ, singing drums, blown out harmonica, and droning harmonium come together to create a sound residing somewhere between Dock Boggs, Dylan, The Band’s Basement Tapes, and one of Fred Neil’s raga-inspired improvisations as Old Testament emerge from the eerie haze of a long-lost America, a land filled with droning backwords ballads and haunting blues.
Featuring Jason Simon on the vox n guitar, the masterful drum work of Ryan Rapsys, the mournful howl of Oak Munson's harp, the always tasteful Nate Ryan on the organ and guitar, and the beautiful Jessica Senteno on the harmonium." - Cardinal Fuzz / Evil Hoodoo

LP - Pretty Lightning - A Magic Lane Of Light And Rain - Import

$17.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Cardinal Fuzz / Sound Effect Records are proud to present to you 'A Magic Lane of Light and Rain' the new long player from Pretty Lightning. Pretty Lightning is a psychedelic blues duo and the spiritual home of Christian Berghoff and Sebastian Haas - brothers in mind and sons of the Datashock family collective. Formed in 2007 their debut LP was released via Fonal and showcased their rolling and tumblin' Spacemen 3 in the Mississippi chug.
Now in 2015 Pretty Lightning present 'A Magic Lane of Light and Rain' a throbbing delta blues psychedelic gloop that collides with the communal vibe of some of their Krautrock forefathers. Recorded in a way that holds no regards for studio polish or any hi-tech sheen - Pretty Lightning favour sounds that bleed together and push their music into a fuzzy sun-baked back porch haze. 'A Magic Lane Of Light and Rain' provides you with pounding stomping drums, reverb drenched dirty riffs, ghostly vocals, analog keys/loops and songs that sound as though there coming filtered from a long faded dream.
Catch Pretty Lightning at Eindhoven Psych Fest and numerous other places as they aim to put a spell on you." - Cardinal Fuzz / Sound Effect

LP - Robert Pollard - Faulty Superheroes

$15.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays Robert Pollard from the swift completion of his latest brilliant record. Faulty Superheroes jets off Pollard’s vinyl-grooved runway like the prototype for some new supersonic power pop fighter jet, and at this point in his career is anyone surprised that the twelve tracks on his latest effort are uniformly awesome? The answer is no. Exactly no one is surprised. The biggest thing with which Pollard has to contend is his own miraculously consistent greatness. That he rarely—if ever—stumbles is some kind of marvel, and perhaps implies superpowers of his own. If you see what we did there. Faulty Superheroes has a tossed-off, effortless magnificence for which the rash of indie-whatevers trailing in his wake from Bee Thousand to the present constantly strive, and fail to achieve. The constant sense of surprise, of wonder, of discovery that one routinely finds in superbly structured instant bomp classics like “Faster the Great” is not something that can be taught, or learned, or imparted, or copied. Pollard largely abandoned the four-track 20 years ago and still gets tagged as “lo-fi,” which is a word that makes even less sense now in the days of digital recording than it did then in the days of occasionally tape-hiss smothered coulda-shoulda-been hits. “Take Me to Yolita” in lesser hands might not have been much more than a bad one-liner stretched to fit a pop song, but Pollard reverse-engineers the titular pun to build a Kinks-like mini-epic that elevates the raw material to transcendent heights. “She walks to him but that’s not him.” Damn. And so it goes. Are there bum notes here and there? Recording-accidents-on-purpose left in like crushed empty beer cans strewn around the miniature, glimmering pop / rock / psych / prog construction sites left standing in the wake of each finished / unfinished songs? You betcha. The Guided By Voices aesthetic was formed and developed and continues to be improved by Pollard, which makes all the more puzzling the hand-wringing that accompanies every announcement of a so-called GBV “break-up” (or for that matter, “reunion”). “You only need one,” he sings on the song of that title. As long as we have Bob, we need nothing else. And we have Bob. If you’re counting your blessings, don’t forget that one. It’s kinda crucial." - GBV Inc.

LP - Sirius - Rising - Original 1979 Stock

$49.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

Vinyl junkies take note, cuz here's some rare private press hard rock from members of Demain and Bubble Puppy!!! Sirius released this one lone full length "Rising" on their label Electric Flow in 1979 before disbanding and giving up the rock dream for good.  But this isn't some last ditch effort, fans of outsider psych, basement prog, bad attitude rock, dirty blooze and all things weird and private press will find pretty of twists and turns in "Rising" to keep the ears happy!  Recommended!

LP - Ufomammut - Ecate

$15.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Ecate is the seventh album from Italian power trio Ufomammut and is named after the ancient Greek goddess of the three worlds: The World of Humans, The World of the Gods and The World of the Dead. Throughout the centuries, her powerful figure has transformed in shape and meaning. As were many pagan deities, Ecate came to be viewed as a negative entity associated with witchcraft and black magic by the Christian church.  Ecate is composed of six separate tracks, each one a representation of the deity’s many manifestations. An evolution in terms of its composition and song structure, the album takes the epic nature of the trio’s last Neurot release, ORO, and distills it into something more concise and aggressive. The band continues to expand upon their previous works by infusing them into Ecate, giving the past a new form. One of the most potent and powerful doom artists in existence, Ufomammut continues to captivate the masses, and the band’s worldwide grasp grows wider with each release." - Neurot

LP - Various Artists - Destroy All Art - A Compilation Of 17 Under The Radar Punk Hits From The 90s

$12.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Inspired by Killed By Death, as well as other influential punk reissue series such as Bloodstains Across ..... and Back from the Grave, Andrew Winton has released Destroy All Art, a compilation of obscure songs taken from 90s seven-inch singles. Typically released in small quantities by the band themselves or small labels with little to no promo budget, most ended up in the $3 bins of independent record stores. Including bands from the US, Europe and Germany with names such as Cock Scratch, I’m Gonna Stab You, Epileptix and Last Sons of Krypton, Destroy All Art is brimming with quality obscure punk rock." - Noisey" - Rock N Roll Parasite

LP - Various Artists - Warfaring Strangers: Darkscorch Canticles 2xLP

$25.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

The ever-amazing Numero Group tosses their hat into the heavy rock reissue game with their 'Bonehead Crunchers'-style compilation of unknown Seventies 'Dungeon Rock' called "Darkscorch Canticles"! Doth thy cloak of protection from spells and roll the twenty-sided die - Numero's the dungeon master on this quest:

"With Warfaring Strangers: Darkscorch Canticles, the impacts of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath on US shores and heartlands is revealed as a bludgeoning previously undescribed. In this collection, medieval Bonham< thunk and febrile Iommi guitar leads crowd out the bluesy Americana that foregrounded those bands, replacing hippie pastoralism with mythology, armored conflict, sorcery, and doom. From legions of occult-obsessive 1970s bonehead teens, we summoned a horde of 16 bands, cloaked in eons of tortured obscurity, whose sole release amounts to a blistering chapter ripped free of rock’s lumbering mythos."

BY THE GODS! This comp totally SLAYS! Conceivably closer to 'Bonehead Crunchers' than any comp we've heard yet, but definitely more closely curated and erring on the side of loincloth wearing, pagan-worshipping dungeon rock than anything else. It's clear that many of the bands herein worshipped at the altar of Page and Iommi (and that's just FINE with us) and since many of these bands were self-recorded and self-released, there's a scrappy urgency and power in the low-to-mid-fi sound of the recordings. The power shines thru though and if you're not aching to slay dragons by the time you hear "Slave of Fear" by Stone Axe or "Warlord" by Wrath, then all is lost for you. Pressed up on glorious 2xLP and housed in an AMAZING looking gatefold with band logo's "Hand drawn" in purple foil "Trapper Keeper" style! Another contender for reissue of the year! KUDOS to Numero once again - this one grabs you by the canticles and doesn't let go!! RECOMMENDED!!

LP - Wand - Golem

$15.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Following up their debut full-length on Ty Segall’s God? label, Wand presents their second album, Golem, on In The Red. Recording with Chris Woodhouse at his Hanger studio in Sacramento, Wand summons the dark and heavy power of the riff. Back in September 2013, Wand was quietly dismembered and ritually eaten in the hills near Dodger Stadium. Wand was reborn as “Wand”—an obese organ falsely organized as four overjoyous nerds. Four flesh balloons betting on a few aging amplifiers. Rumor has it they listen to Here Come the Warm Jets on loop all day and plot mail fraud. What’s more, they allegedely stole Dale Crover’s car and sacrificed it to the weather near the Los Angeles County Line. A few things, at least, are certain: Wand hears ghosts. Wand prefers serpents. The Sun is the mother of every fiction. All phenomena will be consumed in alphabetical order, but desire will recirculate ad infinitum. If all else fails, Wand will just devour more hands. Wand is coming your way soon." - In The Red

LP - ZNR - Barricade 3 - Reissue

$21.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"ZNR was the French duo of Hector Zazou and Joseph Racaille (hence, Zazou ’n’ Racaille) active in the mid to late ’70s. Their 1976 debut, Barricade 3, is an anti-pop masterpiece that truly defies categorization; it makes perfect sense that ZNR appears on the infamous Nurse With Wound list.  Featuring an array of seemingly dichotomous instruments (piano, synthesizers, woodwinds, electric guitar and more) as well as genuinely bizarre vocals, the album is composed of fifteen odd experiments using a loose framework of analog electronics, avant-garde rock, jazz influences, and post-structuralist études.  As The Shadow Ring’s Graham Lambkin writes, “The debut ZNR LP has long remained one of my all-time faves. A collision of eccentric Satie-esque miniatures, strange keyboard / synth explorations and the occasional song, delivered in a mixture of French and Spanish tongues. I always think of the creepy, over-ripe vocals on ‘Seynete’ as one of the LP’s most memorable moments, but there are many.” Despite its schizophrenic mystique, Barricade 3 is very witty and surprisingly accessible with hints of Robert Wyatt, Kevin Ayers and Perrey-Kingsley. This long out-of-print vinyl reissue reproduces the original gatefold design including illustration by Don Van Vliet." - Superior Viaduct

7in - Germs - Forming - Reissue

$9.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

" The Germs' debut 45 is often cited as the first true Los Angeles punk record. "Forming," the first song written by Darby Crash and crudely recorded in guitarist Pat Smear's parents' garage, captures the band's cultish allure and crushing lack of musicianship. The B-side track, "Sex Boy," was recorded live on the set of Cheech & Chong's Up In Smoke. As Claude Bessy gushes in Slash magazine in 1977, The Germs are "beyond music ... mind-boggling ... inexplicably brilliant in bringing monotony to new heights." This reissue comes with original sleeve design and lyric sheet. Limited edition green vinyl." - Superior Viaduct

Book - Ryan Duggan - Dare To Be Stupid - The Poster Art Of Ryan Duggan And Drug Factory Press

FIRST PRESSING LIMITED TO 300 COPIES!!!!

$24.99 → BUY NOW LISTEN

"Dare To Be Stupid is the long-awaited and first-ever collection of Ryan Duggan at Drug Factory Press’ poster art from 2006-2014. Duggan uses a style that creates an instant reaction, whether it be disgust, elation, or a little of both, each and every design he’s cranked out is instantly identifiable and locks into a good place in your mind, even before you can process the “garbage-in, garbage-out” aesthetic that so warmly graces his creative work. As an artist employed by several music venues across the Chicagoland area, as well as having his designs featured at Michelin Star-rated restaurant/inn Longman & Eagle, Duggan’s work is ripe with snark, presented in a rudimentary starkness and ambiguity so effortless, it’s become an institution in a short amount of time, and we couldn’t be more excited to get his first book out into the world, and most importantly, into your hands.

Lavish illustrated posters featuring the likes of Thee Oh Sees, The Black Lips, The Effigies, Cheater Slicks, TV Ghost, Running, The Melvins, Obits, Fake Limbs, Guided By Voices, The Sueves, Heavy Times, Tight Phantomz, Nones, Vivian Girls, Mikal Cronin, Ty Segall, Netherfriends, Bleach Party, High On Fire, Pissed Jeans, Radar Eyes, and many more!" - Hozac
