LP - Emmett Frisbee - Sound Paintings - Soo To Be A Major Film - Original Stock - $14.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
RARE PRIVATE PRESS SEALED ORIGINAL STOCK FROM PITTSBURGH OUTSIDER ARTIST EXTRAORDINAIRE!!!

Original sealed copies of this oddball private press gem! Using our keen detective skills we actually were able to get in touch with outsider musician Emmett Frisbee himself! Turns out he was still sitting on SEALED O.G. stock of his private-press, genre-bending masterpiece! Without thinking twice, we bought Mr. Frisbee out. It's safe to say P-Rex has the LAST REMAINING O.G. COPIES OF "SOUND PAINTINGS". Danté Carfagna (Express Rising) previously penned these essential words in Issue 6 of Wax Poetics:

"Pittsburgh has tons of pizza places. Tons. In fact, it's hard to get anything to eat that's not pizza related. Navigation is also hard to come by, as the city is nestled between small mountains in a valley at the intersection of three large river. That said, the Emmett Frisbee record seems a result of frustration with both pepperoni and the automobile. Basically, one large piece committed to each side, the rather large ensemble (headed by the piano of Frisbee) moves through all kinds of fertile territory. ELectronics are explored, tight prog-jazz moves abound, and an air of experimentalism that dominates the proceedings. The more interesting side, entitled "City Suite" links many different movements together with the sound of the railroad, with one particular passage inexplicably resembling some lost Timbaland track. Easily moving between straight bar jazz, ambient passages, and honky funk, the Frisbee team wears their influences proudly. They would be the local band most likely to provide musical accompaniment to both an experimental theater group and a tenth generation video of the Immaculate Reception. In essence a PGH version of Minneapolis's Whole Earth Rainbow Band, or perhaps even a more organized Starship Beer, the local "zanies" will always have their own privately pressed record. The late '70s have a wealth of unsorted local White avant-garde outfits, most autonomous and interesting, many deemed "Genius!" twenty-five years after the fact by bored local music critics."

We'd certainly LOVE to see the movie Frisbee was envisioning whilst compiling "Sound Paintings" - part love story, part daytime soap, part avant-garde character study, and ALL completely WHACKED in the head! You'd be hard-pressed to find anything that sounds quite like "Sound Paintings". This one will sit nicely next to your recent reissues of Don Muro, Todd, and Medico Doktor Vibes albums! Again - we have the LAST remaining stock straight from the source, so once these are gone, consider the well DRIED UP. Blaze and blast this mutha! RECOMMENDED!

7in - Fuzz/CCR Headcleaner - LAMC Vol. 10 - $7.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

We grabbed a fat stack of the latest installment of the LAMC series and it is a stone ripper!  Get the background behind this series directly from the label responsible, Famous Class:

"We are launching the LAMC split 7” series in loving memory Ariel Panero, our dear friend and a partner in Famous Class.

The series gets its name from the epic Less Artists More Condos concerts that Ariel threw, showcasing amazing bands in some strange and unique venues. Ariel’s driving force was a desire to get the bands he believed in the recognition he felt they deserved. This series simply tries to honor that idea.

For each LAMC split 7” we ask one of our favorite bands to provide us with an unreleased track for the A-side. We then asked them to pick their favorite emerging artist to provide a track for the B-side. Ariel’s LAMC shows introduced New Yorkers to bands they might not have otherwise discovered – we hope that this series will do the same. We’ll also make the tracks available on the FAMOUS CLASS bandcamp page with 100% of the digital proceeds going to the Ariel Panero Memorial Fund at VH1 Save the Music.

Look out brothers and sisters!  The A side sets the scene with the mighty FUZZ giving us rip roaring rendition of Kinks classic "Till The End Of The Day".  Yeah you read that right!  Flip this disc and find yet another totally exclusive rager from SF's CCR Headcleaner entitled "Free The Freeks", it's a caveman stomper of an anthem if we've ever heard one!  Both tracks are total scorchers and ludicrously Recommended.

7in - Silver Chalice - Wasted - Import - $8.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

RAW AS FUCK reissue of this lone, 1979 single by Silver Chalice, a short-lived project fronted by the beefy pop-pipes of Kim Komet! Reissued by the folks at Munster - read on:

"Reissue of this heavy-sounding glitter punk 45 from 1979 by the short-lived Silver Chalice. Frontman Kim Komet described it as "dead-crude rock" and he was backed by a band that included Geza X, Terry Churchman, Paul Faris, Pat Delaney, and Dutch Shultz, among others. Sounds mightier than ever after being remastered by original producer, Geza X."

DUDES. Stop what your doing and put this in your shopping cart. This single was the only out put by Silver Chalice in it's original incarnation (Komet would reconfigure Silver Chalice with Geza X, Rob Ritter and Germs drummer Don Bowles in 1985 for the "Evil Birds" 12" EP) and its an adrenalin-fueled rocket ride of LA-inflected glam-punk! Silver Chalice brings a gun to the knife fight, and rages hard and mean on the A-Side, "Wasted", sounding at times like the bastard child of Iggy and The Stooges and The Testors, (and featuring guitar by Geza X). "Hot Tears" is a slow burner on the B-Side, ratcheting up the smoldering intensity in the creepy punk balladry department. The guitar still cuts deep though, raw and ragged enough to not make you feel bad about throwing this one on to sex up that certain someone in your life. This single RULES and is a revelation if you haven't heard it. Waste no time in grabbing this one, as we're ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN these will not last long (especially after you click on that listen link). RECOMMENDED x ONE MILLION PUNKS. Get this or die trying!

7in - Jimmy Smack - Death Rocks - 2014 Reissue - $11.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

We have a stack of this amazing synth-punk single that the Death Vault Records label has lovingly reissued for a whole new generation of minimal synth enthusiasts.  Get the full back story directly from the label here:

"Wild man, Jimmy Mack started playing electronic music in the late 70's. Together with his wife Lynne, they formed the duo "Jim and I" and played live in and around Los Angeles for awhile. Their music was so unusual and futuristic that one club owner amusingly used to call them "The Jetsons"!!!. The pair managed to record some of their songs in studio but sadly never released any records. Once Lynne had enough of playing, Jimmy wanted to keep at it, and he did. This time he went on his own and created a music so unique that it's almost impossible to pigeonhole. He was now Jimmy Smack, and apparently for obvious reason. We're not gonna say more because this is none of our business. What's more important to know is that he released three incredible but very limited records, 1982's Death or Glory 7", 1982's Anguish 12" and 1983's Death Rocks 7". All on his own Star Theatre Productions label, named after a building he rented where he taught dance. Jimmy was and still is an incredible dancer. The Star Theatre was also the home of many San Pedro rock band like The Minutemen and Saccharine Trust where those bands rehearsed and played live. Jimmy was also featured with an untitled live track on the Mighty Feeble compilation that came out on the New Alliance label. You can also find the song "Scarlet Beast" on "Killed by Death" volume 14. Now, 30 years later. Death Vault Records is proud and thrilled to reissue his Death Rocks record. It features Hating Life and Depression. Two songs of true misanthropic and nihilistic expression from the dark side of life. No predictable & boring reedeeming political or social values, just plain hate and pessimism. Imagine a darker and dirgier Suicide, circa their first album. Spooky and mysterious. Doom and gloom electro-punk weirdness played with an electric bagpipe and rhythm machine. Minimal and full of soul. No synthesizer was used even tough it sounds like it. According to the man himself, the original was pressed in around only 50 (Fifty!) copies. But you can now own your own copy for a fraction of what the original goes for. This reissue comes straight from the original master tape and sounds as good if not better than the original. 500 copies pressed at 45rpm, 100 on clear vinyl (available only directly from Death Vault Records) and 400 on black. Printed center labels unlike the original with large center hole. Pocket sleeve is printed on high quality cardstock. Comes with two inserts, one 7x7 inch glossy paper with unseen pictures and a 4,5x5,5 inch on beautiful 24 lb antique laid business paper as a thanks list. All around a beautiful and quality package! Own or disown, you're all gonna die anyway!"

Do you like Suicide, Minimal Man, The Normal, La Grande Triple Alliance acts like The Anals or Scorpion Violente?  Well then grip this sinister single pronto, cuz Jimmy Smack is bringing the darkness big time!  These two tracks of raw and dirty synth punk are pure nihilistic mayhem, we mean the song titles alone will clue you in to the mood one is in store for: "Hating Life" and "Depression".  Skipping through the flowers you won't be, but drinking in the blackest of night and reveling in the negativity is surely the order of the day with Jimmy Smack.  Super Recommended.

LP - Ennio Morricone - 4 Mosche Di Velluto Grigio (Import, AMS/Cinevox issue) - $29.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

If you like Italian Giallo Cinema as much as we do, and we're sure you do, then be sure to grab these choice soundtracks.  Dario Argento, aka the Italian Hitchcock has been putting out heart pounding, eye-covering slasher flicks for a loooooong time now and we just got a fresh batch of reissues of the soundtracks to some of Argento's greatest movies.  The lion's share of these soundtracks are scored by the legendary Italian prog provocateurs Goblin as well as another by the one and only Ennio Morricone!  From the trembling violin of "4 Flies On Grey Velvet" to the buzzing fuzz bass of "Profondo Rosso" (Deep Red) and the sinister synths of "Suspira", these records provide more than enough eerie sounds and funky grooves to please any discerning collection.

"Another AMS Records exclusive, another Cinevox rarity, this time brought forth over 40 years ago by the genius of Ennio Morricone, in the heyday of Italian underground cinema, years when true masterpieces were made, often innovative from various points of view (plot, photography, colors, settings, screenplay…).
“4 Mosche di Velluto Grigio” (4 Flies on Grey Velvet) ends the so-called ‘animal trilogy’ by Dario Argento, and sees the director in an absolutely
inspired moment, yet probably unconscious that he’ll leave an indelible mark in the history of world cinema with his following works. This movie, for some reasons, was never officially released on videotape – apart, perhaps, in an obscure French edition – and only recently has finally been issued on optical disc, while from the soundtrack only released a 45rpm single was pressed at the time, before it was fully recovered in the ’90s.
In “4 Flies …” Morricone wrote one of his most ‘rock-oriented’ soundtracks – without of course neglecting his indelible touch – also thanks to the fact that the protagonist of the film is a rock drummer. You hear echoes of Deep Purple, not surprisingly given that Argento wanted them as the first authors of the movie score, and it is no coincidence that his most famous film is titled… Deep Red!" - Cinevox/BTF/AMS

LP - Goblin - Profondo Rosso (Import, AMS/Cinevox issue) - $29.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

"Incredible 30th anniversary reissue of Profondo Rosso, one of the greatest cult movie soundtracks of all times.
This reissue is a faithful reproduction of the very first pressing from 1975 (pressed at the same pressing plant from back then).
A unique product for this truly legendary masterpiece!" - Cinevox/BTF/AMS

LP - Goblin - Roller (Import, AMS/Cinevox issue) - $29.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

"Roller was the second record for Goblin, originally released in 1976, just after the successful score of
Profondo Rosso, and is one of the very few Goblin records that was not intended to be a soundtrack.
By many considered their best effort, in Roller the band develops their dark, hypnotic and totally instrumental sound, but with an always vivacious and dynamic edge. The record also features new members Agostino Marangolo (from Flea) and Massimo Guarini.
Never reissued on vinyl before, great sounding 180g high quality vinyl!" - Cinevox/BTF/AMS

LP - Goblin - Suspiria (Import, AMS/Cinevox issue) - $29.99 - LISTEN listen TEMPORARLIY OUT OF STOCK IN CHICAGO, EMAIL IF INTERESTED

"Probably the most scary soundtrack Goblin has ever written (don’t listen to it when the lights are down!); it seems that the score was composed before the film was ready, so that director Dario Argento had to make some changes to the movie script, in order to have the music perfectly suited!
This legendary soundtrack combines elements of music and sound scary effects going far beyond traditional background scoring, becoming an integral part of the film. As critics say nowadays, SUSPIRIA music “is so perfectly integrated into the film, fares less well as a stand-alone item. All that pounding, howling, thumbing, and wheezing is enough to send chills down your spine even without the movie images (it is the perfect imaginary soundtrack), but not all of it could be called a pleasant listening experience (unless your idea of pleasant is having your nerves set on edge)”." - Cinevox/BTF/AMS

LP - Goblin - Tenebre - Import - $29.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

"Tenebre is the soundtrack to the eponymous film directed by Dario Argento in 1982.. Originally credited to 'Simonetti - Pignatelli - Morante,' it's still considered a genuine Goblin album. As many people know, the 'real' Goblin were releasing the LP Volo at the same time, and the band's name and logo could not be used for copyright reasons. Tenebre is the last great collaboration between Argento and Goblin, before an almost 20-year long break that didn't end until 2001's Non ho sonno. Here Dario Argento moved from full and warm-colored atmospheres to the aseptic and cold architectural spaces of Rome. The music of Tenebre responds to this change. Claudio Simonetti was returning from his first experiences in the techno/dance field and, since the band was missing a real drummer, synthesizers and samplers took over, in a mix between rock and electronic music that once again perfectly blends with the images of the film. This reissue of the Tenebre OST vinyl follows the AMS Records tradition where a poster is attached to the LP replica, gathering information for collectors about all the known existing versions of the release, images of the discography, and movie fliers. This release also includes an essay presenting the film and the soundtrack in detail. Not to be missed by any horror movie and soundtracks fans!""  - Cinevox/BTF/AMS

LP - Goblin - Zombi (Import, AMS/Cinevox issue) - $29.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

"In exchange for Dario Argento’s help on Dawn of the Dead, George Romero allowed Argento to release a different (more explicit) cut of the movie in Europe. This version was called “Zombi”. Instead of the library music score that Romero had used, Argento enlisted the help of his pals Goblin to record a new soundtrack. The result is a brilliant score; menacing, thrilling and totally suited to the movie. There’s even a sleazy lounge-esque track – “Zombi (Supermarket)”. (Source: MovieGrooves.com):
Faithful replica of the original 1978 release, pressed onstunning 180 gram audiophile vinyl." - Cinevox/BTF/AMS

LP - Little Ann - Deep Shadows - $19.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

On this lost collection of material produced by 60's Detroit soulster Dave Hamilton, with whom vocalist Little Ann recorded these tracks for Hamilton's unheralded Da Da Music Productions company. The tracks contained herein are plaintive cries for mercy and love, heartfully rendered through Little Ann's powerful set of pipes. What really leaps out of the grooves here, though, is the... grooves. Hamilton cut his teeth as a session man in the Motown studios, and took everything he learned there about the deep, deep, pocket and applied it to his own orchestrations, each featuring hard danceable breaks and more often than not draped with haunting vibraphones, along with Little Ann's passionate-to-the-point-of-mildly-frayed delivery. The songs collected here, most of which she wrote herself along with Hamilton, are the stuff of dustbin-hunting hip hop production folklore, and would fit right in backing some early Kanye West club-burner if it weren't for the fact that they sound, like, WAY better on their own. Timmion Records are responsible for rescuing this from total obscurity, and it's a job VERY well done. Act fast, word on the street is LP availability will be limited. Recommended!

LP - Gun Club - Fire of Love - Reissue - Import - $19.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

FINALLY someone stepped up to the plate (thank you Munster Records) and is reissuing Gun Club's classic debut blues soaked punk LP "Fire Of Love."  Holy shit, we couldn't be more excited to have one of our favorite records of all time back in the shop to share with everyone!!!!!!!:

"Jeffrey Lee Pierce -- reggae enthusiast, heroin addict, and former president of the Blondie fan club -- suffered a lonely, depressing death on March 31st, 1996 of a brain hemorrhage, after untold years of drug use and alcoholism. Why this event mattered much to anyone lay in a fantastic record his band, The Gun Club, recorded 16 years earlier: the masterful Fire Of Love. A visionary and fierce moment in time when The Gun Club took the raw, dripping meat of shopworn delta blues and infused it with the energy and fire of the LA punk rock scene. Inspired by bands like X, Television and the Cramps, he met Kid Congo Powers (who later played with Nick Cave and Cramps) and they formed the Creeping Ritual in 1979, soon to be renamed The Gun Club. Pierce was already a notorious drunk, exhibitionist, poet and fanboy. The Gun Club were quickly a dangerous new spoke on the spinning wheel of dynamic LA alt-culture. By 1980, Jeffrey Lee had moved into a deep reverence for Mississippi delta blues. The Gun Club paid more than passing homage: they wholeheartedly swiped complete riffs, words and attitude from the masters. Pierce participated in the great blues singer tradition by cobbling together distinct lines from other people's songs to create new ones. Snatches of Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Robert Johnson can be heard throughout this debut LP -- released in 1981 on Slash's Ruby Records. What makes Fire Of Love such a brilliant listen long after its time is that this blatant homage to the blues was amplified, energized and kicked into overdrive -- in a new style that combined the ghostliness of the original model with a FAST, unwound and supremely energetic beat. The engineering feats of Pat Burnette contributed to that sound: he wielded his Quad-Teck studios like a weapon, and mastered some of the greatest sides in LA music history (such as Germs' GI). Pure fullness of sound and the raw hot throb of records that were made to stand the test of time. From the immensely dark and aggressive sexuality of "Sex Beat," Gun Club's most recognizable number, to the fetishistic salute to fellow traveler Poison Ivy of The Cramps in "For The Love Of Ivy," including the hellfire classic "She's Like Heroin To Me," a 2:33 masterpiece in which everything comes together; Fire Of Love is pure perfection. It stands among the greatest classics of rock history, and shows the genius of the great Jeffrey, whose haunted singing has never been replaced. It proved out to be one of the most influential records of the '80s, with countless musicians declaring their love for the Club. "

To call Gun Club influential is an understatement.  Everyone from the Gories to the Flat Duo Jets and almost everyone else that's put a killer punk, garage or rock n roll album out since "Fire Of Love" hit the shelves back in '81 owes Jeffrey Lee Pierce and Co. a huge thank you.  Gun Club paved the way for what became the Crypt and Sympathy For The Record Industry sounds, as well offering a solid template to anyone who wanted to create a wild unruly rock n roll racket.  Many a band road this LP's coattails to success sadly that Gun Club never achieved.

Ask around at the shop, and "Fire Of Love" will definitely make more than a few of our top ten albums of all time.  So the fact that Munster repressed this cult favorite for scores of fans, new and old alike, makes it like Christmas.  Once the needle drops on "Sex Beat" or "She's Like Heroin" you'll be hooked forever like us too.   Do not miss out on the chance to pick up this classic on the cheap, CUZ IT COMES WITH THE HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION WE CAN GIVE AN ALBUM, ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL!!!!!!!!!!

LP - Autumn - Synthesize - $24.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen
AVAILABLE AGAIN, 2014 REPRESS

What a treasure we have here folks!  The autumn leaves might be a long ways away from now, but right here, right now, its fall at the shop. Autumn was a minimal synth duo from early 80's Belgium whom finally has had their "Synthesize" LP reissued by the sweet label Minimal Wave.  This one is loaded with super freakin' catchy and danceable pop JAMS that don't miss the mark.  Fans of the electro-poppier minimal synth and cold wave definitely want to pick this one up. There are RECOMMENDED feel good finds to be had here! You'll find the full histroy from the label below:

“The twenty-seventh release on Minimal Wave is AUTUMN’s Synthesize LP, selections from the band’s best material. Autumn was the legendary project of PETER BONNE and GEERT COPPENS, two Belgian teenagers who started experimenting with the potentials of analog synthesizers during the late ‘70s and formed a band together soon after in 1980, quickly becoming one of the most truly visionary groups to emerge from the synth scene in Europe. The album is titled after their Synthesize single which was recorded along with its b-side ‘The Third Autumn’ in 1981 in a professional 24 track studio in only 7 hours. Both songs became modest summer hits in Belgian dance clubs in 1982, and the release been highly sought after ever since. This album features ‘Synthesize’ and ‘The Third Autumn,’ along with other cassette only favorites like ‘I Say You Hello,’ ‘Not Afraid To Die,’ and ‘Night In June’ (featured on Angular’s Cold Wave & Minimal Electronics compilation in 2010). Considering how young Autumn were when they recorded these songs, the production is very impressive. These multi-layered synthpop gems are catchy, danceable and definitely ahead of their time. ‘I Say You Hello’ has been described as an ‘amazing’ piece of synth music with “insanely catchy vocals, an incredible bass line and some mind-melting analog patterns”. Autumn was previously featured on The Lost Tapes compilation LP with their ‘Time Is On Our Side,’ a magical piece of dark synth wave music. Due to heavy interest in the band and our general love for all Micrart Group projects, we decided a full LP needed to be released. Thus we present it to you: a hand-numbered, limited edition pressing on 180 gram clear green vinyl housed in a heavy printed gloss jacket.”

7in - Primitive Calculators - I Can't Stop It b/w Do That Dance - Import - $9.99 - BUYbuy - LISTEN listen

The Desire Records label has lovingly reissued this looooonng unavailable classic single for a whole new generation of punks and music lovers alike!  Get the full scoop directly from the label:

"Cult Melbourne band Primitive Calculators cut a single in 1979 before splitting in the true punk fashion. A posthumous eponymous live album was released in 1981 and that was it. These two tracks are as fresh now as they were more than 30 years ago: in a style not dissimilar to the Screamers or Cabaret Voltaire (circa Nag Nag Nag), Primitive Calculators used raw monophonic synth lines with scratchy guitars and screaming vocals, but the songs stood on their own (as the unplugged version of ""Do That Dance"" that appears on the Primitive Calculators and Friends 1979-82 could testify). The original 7"" is now incredibly rare and hard to find and this reissue is its exact replica. First pressing limited to 500 copies. "

Australia's Primitive Calculators were early purveyors of synth drenched post punk and this, their lone single from 1980 is two cuts of skittering electronics and frenzied moans of mutant punkoid bangers.  And now the Desire Records label has pressed up an exact repro of this classic single and given it a second life.  If you dig the sounds of Suicide, Cabaret Voltaire, 39 Clocks or Silver Apples then grab this catchy yet caustic single immediately! Super Recommended.
