Hot on the heels of their scorching, scuzzed up 7 inch for Total Punk, Buck Biloxi And The Fucks have returned with their punk as fuck s/t debut on Red Lounge / Secret Identity. Get ready to kill some brain cells and blow up yer ears -
"2035..the Hippies finally managed to make machines that look like Punk Rockers, act like MC 5ers but sound like Retro Neo Psychedelic Hippie Shit! They send the machines back to 2013 and they start taking over the Vinyl World. Instead of resistance ..the Kids jump on the Band wagon..the world is lost!!!!! No resistance? A small band of drunks that's would not even be able to make a psychedelic record if you payed em..refuses to learn more then two chords!
By sending former S.P.I.T.S. Agent Joe Pestilence from 2035 back to 1994 the resistance of the future is trying to save the past...Joe manages to knock up a Mrs Craig and Robert Watson Craig III is born. In 2013 Pa and Son form one Band to bind them all..."White Boy" ..finding that name is already taken..they form Buck Biloxi and the Fucks!
Musically they destroy all shit records..laser sword like anthems as "shut the hell up", "shut the fuck up", "the walls have aids", "I'm a disaster", "I'm a genius or "who gives a fuck" get them a nomination for noble peace price! They are the James T Kirks of Stupid, they are the Rockwells of Smart, they are the Mil Mascaras of fuckin you UP!!!! but hey, why listen to me, listen to what the press won't have to say:
"that cover is not nice enough for the music" (not TERMBO)
"if termbo doesn't hate it , it ain't punk" (not GONER RECORDS)
"damn, how will I make a record with the Fucks now?" ( Not LOU REED R.i.P.)
"I will!!! I already fired "THE BAND"" (not BOB DYLAN)
"Those Crummy Fucks" (not Dave McManus)
"The Fucks??? ahhh I get it!!" (not The Fugs)
File under: Electric Eels, Captain 9's and the Knickerbocker Trio, Trio, Nazi Death Camp, Art Phag, Your Mom."
OK just stop reading and get this one already. It's dirty, raw, feral punk like most of the kids are afraid to play these days. From their Ramones worshipping cover art to their love of the Crypt back catalog, no one is keeping garage punk in its rightful place, all blown out, sick and in the gutter and this debut lp is proof. Boring music is for boring people and Buck Biloxi And His Band of Bugdet Rock Fucks are anything but. (So volatile they couldn't even press it in the states!!!!) YEAH LET'S JUST SAY THIS ONE COMES WITH OUR HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!!
Outta nowhere, Cleopatra Records lovingly reissues the debut album by the one and only Chrome! Here are the details directly from the source:
"A special deluxe reissue from Cleopatra Records of the debut album - The Visitation - by art rock pioneers Chrome painstakingly restored to its original 1976 glory. Featuring Mike Low (vocals, guitar, bass, synthesizer), John Lambdin (guitar, synthesizer, bass, mandolin, string ensemble, electric violin, vocals), Gary Spain (bass, keyboards, acoustic and electric violin) and Damon Edge (drums, percussion, synthesizers, tape effects, vocals). Packaged in a gatefold jacket with liner notes by Chrome historian Neil Martinson and featuring extensive quotations by some of the founding members of the band. The first Chrome release is particularly collectible due to the many variations of covers, labels, and inserts. The album's original issue with the spray-painted cover is found here."
By now you all know we totally worship at the altar of Chrome so it should come as no surprise how freaking stoked we are about this one. Cleopatra has pressed up a super high quality 180 gram version with a thick gatefold sleeve no less! Chrome's debut LP finds the band molding their psychedelic art damaged prog rock into truly unique and original sounds. Mega Recommended.
We just got in a sweet batch of albums from Chilean label BYM (Blow Your Mind), the folks responsible for releasing WatchOut! albums in their native Chilé, one of them being this reissue of the 2005 third album from fellow countrymen The Ganjas! Roll up a fattie & read the sweet & lowdown from the folks at BYM:
"After three recordings, The Ganjas (2002), Fuma y Mira (2004) and Laydown (2005), the Chilean group is already one of the most recognizable of the last time. You can hear the morning song of a rooster in the countryside of Paine, then a drum roll sounds and a parade of music starts moving with the urgency of a moonwalk. ‘Alondra’ hits and the band shows how sharpened their sense of melody is, ‘Dancehall’ is part of the band’s psychedelic overlooking on Manchester and ‘Moonlight cat; is another reggae overpost the Ganjas own. The slow pulse, elementary English lyrics sung parsimonious by guitarist SAMUEL MAQUIEIRA the volatile intensity of ALDO BENINCASA on drums and cymbals, the atmospheric tones that manages LUIS FELIPE SAAVEDRA from keypads, are all signs of a entrenched group style. Anyhow they sought other routes of flight and found, not only in reggae, rock or psychedelia, but also in shoegaze and in Chile, in the rooster crowing at the beginning of the record and in the queltehues screaming near the end. The music of The Ganjas can be used to fly in any direction and at any altitude. The Ganjas are one of the best exponents of Chilean Rock and the fundamental must-listen-to band for understanding the new chilean psychedelic scene in the last decade. They began the long jam kind of playing with steady drum beats and simple basslines, but adding innovative and colourful lyrics and synths, never losing the song structure.” Limited edition of 500 copies for the world."
NICE. These herb-drenched freaks have been filling heads for a decade now in their native country & with the recent interest in all things psychedelic these days, it's great to see their music start to see the light of day! If you dig the acid-fried sounds of folks like The Night Beats or The Black Angels as well as the dusty desert haze of bands like Mazzy Star or Spacemen 3 then these guys are passin' the dutchie on the left-hand side - take a hit, wouldja?!? Limited to 500 copies, so these will likely go FAST - grab it & bag it! RECOMMENDED!!
More Chilean psychedelic madness from Blow Your Mind Records (BYM), this time from Chilean kosmonauts Nueva Costa & their album from late-2013 entitled "El Gran Espiritu". Have a listen to what BYM has cookin':
"Chile’s NUEVA COSTA emerges as one of the most indefinable bands from the BYM stable. A tasty psych blend of 1970s German psychedelia (Harmonia), the nebulous but sharp electronic music from the ‘80s showed by Gary Numan and the Chilean psych-folk roots founded on Los Jaivas and Inti Illimani. The album deals in themes of local Chilean culture as seen through the looking glass of the last 40 years of popular world music. Edition of 500 copies."
While Nueva Costa definitely pulls from German kosmiche pioneers like Harmonia & Eighties synth-wave heavies like Gary Numan, we're definitely hearing the influence of some slightly more modern influences like Stereolab & Broadcast - not quite as kosmiche-loungey as Stereolab got, but not quite as BBC Radiophonic Workshop-cum-occult-seance as Broadcast became... but the influence is definitely there! A super-fascinating listen - we can't wait to hear what these guys have cooking up next! This pressing is (of course) limited to 500 copies, so if you're feelin' it, you better cop that shizz quick! We're DEFINITELY diggin it - RECOMMENDED!
YES!!!! Tizona Records stepped up to the plate and reissued the Walker Brothers' final studio album and long neglected, cult fave, "Nite Flights." So get yer shoes and coat on and we'll see you in a sec, but if you need the whole back story read on -
"Originally formed in the U.K. in 1964, The Walker Brothers - Scott Walker (Scott Engel), John Walker (John Maus) and Gary Walker (Gary Leeds) - released three albums in the U.K. and two in the U.S. before pursuing solo careers. The group reformed in the mid-70s and subsequently released No Regrets (1975) and Lines (1976).
1978's Nite Flights is the trio's sixth and final studio album. All three of the group members provided songs to the 10-song set including four from Scott ("Shutout," "Fat Mama Kick," "Nite Flights," "The Electrician"), four from John ("Rhythms of Vision," "Disciples of Death," "Fury and the Fire," "Child of Flames") and two from Gary ("Death of Romance," "Den Haague").
Scott Walker's standout work here was the first original material from the singer/songwriter since his 1970 solo album Till the Band Comes In and it not only rejuvenated his solo career but set the template for his future releases and rock music in general.
Featuring artwork designed by Hipgnosis, the Walker Brother's long out of print swan song Nite Flights is now being reissued on vinyl by Tizona Records with both the artwork and the audio redone by Todd Rittmann (Dead Rider)."
A weird mesmerizing, synth bent masterpiece where all three Walker Brothers started to careen in different directions and just barely held it together long enough to record what may be their best and most notoriously experimental lp. "Nite Flights" is the album that gave birth to the eccentric and killer solo career of Scott Walker, yeah definitely the moment when he realized that he was walking to a different beat from his so called brothers. And more than just their warped disco-era swan song, or a snapshot of a band falling apart, "Nite Flight" is twisted, bizarro pop rollercoaster ride all us record and mutant pop junkies need to take. We're more than stoked we can finally add "Nite Flight" to our collections. YES, IT'S SUPER RECOMMENDED!!!!
LP - Colin Potter - Two Nights - Import - Ltd to 500 - $15.99 - BUY
We BLEW thru our first batch of this latest release from Deep Distance (a subsidiary of UK label The Great Pop Supplement) - Colin Potter's "Two Nights"! Let's get DEEP:
"Next up on Deep Distance following the quick fire sell out of the recent Karen Novotny X and Samantha Glass releases, comes what some might term something of an underground classic. The first in a series of vinyl reissues to Colin Potter’s revered body of home recorded, cassette only releases between 1980 and 1982, presented by Deep Distance and Sacred Summits over the coming months.
Colin has worked within the fields of electronic and experimental music for over 30 years, collaborating with the likes of Current 93, Ora, Organum, Andrew Chalk and most notably as a key part to Nurse With Wound alongside Steven Stapleton. He started the esteemed ICR (Integrated Circuit Recordings) label in 1981 releasing the incredibly rare minimal synth comp “We Couldn’t Agree on a Title” LP before releasing a clutch of wonderful home recordings of his own over half a dozen small run cassette only releases.
The vinyl reissue project kicks off here with the incredible “Two Nights”. Recorded as the title would hint at, over 2 evenings at home in Sutton-On-The-Forest, North Yorkshire. Two epic side long pieces recorded as a first time, live experiment, albeit in the studio, which as Colin describes in the sleeve notes, consisted of; “some synths, a sequencer, a drum machine and some basic effects then, with a vague plan in mind, I picked up a guitar and pressed 'record'. I did this on 2 consecutive nights (hence the clever title) and what you hear is exactly what happened, no editing, which explains the bum notes here and there”.
Bum notes or not, the results sound remarkably fresh and relevant today. A fabulous album finally seeing a vinyl release after 30 odd years. Packaged with the usual Deep Distance / Great Pop Supplement eye for detail, in this case a diecut sleeve revealing a half red / half green LP beneath! Looks just stunning…. Expected to sell out quick so get on it!"
GET ON IT INDEED. Seriously DO NOT SLEEP on this one - Potter's been residing in the appreciative tape decks of those paying attention for decades, but now we have the rare chance to spin this one on wax & we couldn't be happier. "Two Nights" is a treasure for all the minimal synth freaks out there (and that includes US too!) - Potter's collaborated with folks like Current 93 & Nurse With Wound, & his skill & innovation are in full swing on "Two Nights", with each sidelong piece sending us on an analog journey of epic kosmiche proportions! We dug this one the first time thru & we're STILL vibing HARD on it - We were shocked we were able to restock, but the well seems to have dried up so don't miss your shot to snag this bad boy! Beautifully packaged too with eye-catching die-cut sleeve that showcases the split-color wax in an extremely clever way (and a slight tip 'o the hat to Kraftwerk's infamous "cone" album covers). Limited to 500 copies & SUPREMELY RECOMMENDED by us here at the 'Rex. GRAB IT.
